I'm starting a new Instagram series on Fridays, sharing pictures of my dear grandmother Rosemarie. Each photo was taken by her husband, Edward (my grandfather). I'm calling it #theRosemarielook.
In this picture, it looks like she was probably pregnant with my Uncle Kim.
My grandmother was English. She came to America in her early 20s, fell in love and ended up staying. She got married at 26. She had always planned to go back to England. Her style was understated, according to my mom, but seeing her in pictures from when she was younger (probably about the age I am now), she looks effortlessly stylish to me. It always amazes me how trends—and classic looks—can translate across the years. Along with the picture on Instagram each Friday, I'll often be posting a corresponding story here on Galbraith with links to similar pieces to make this look yours in the here and now.
Cheers to those who travel to the U.S., who fall in love and stay, who at times never quite feel they belong, and yet leave an indelible impression on their loved ones and everyone they knew.
